Mga nangangalakal ng plastik na bote sa Puerto Princesa City, binigyan ng pondo ng USAID By Harvey Garilao | January 16, 2021
Pinagkalooban ng higit P10 milyong pondo ng United States Agency for International Development (USAID) ang Eco-Kolek Project na samahan ng mga mangangalakal sa Jacana Road, Barangay Bancao-bancao, Puerto Princesa na tinawag na ‘Eco-Warriors’ at ang pangunahing kinokolekta sa kanilang pangangalakal ay mga plastik na bote.
“We will professionalize their career as a waste picker as ‘mangangalakal’. Ipo-formalize natin ‘yan, bibigyan sila ng uniform, second magkakaroon sila ng health insurance. We will create a system, we will involve the community of Puerto Princesa but will start first with the prototype sa Barangay Bancao-bancao,” ayon kay John Vincent Gastanes, project director ng Eco-kolek Project.
Isa rin sa nais na ilunsad ng Eco-Kolek Project ay ang sistematikong pangongolekta ng mga basurang maaaring ibenta at iresiklo sa pamamagitan ng isang app sa smartphone.
“We would come up with an app that would support the schedule of pick up. ‘Yung mechanism like the households could click the button, involved ang technology and then sila [Eco-Warriors] ang magiging formal waste pickers who would collect it and they could sell it,” ayon kay Gastanes.
Mayroon naman umanong mga kompanya hindi lang dito sa lungsod kundi pati sa Maynila ang nais na bumili ng mga makokolektang basura ng mga Eco-Warriors.
“We do have several partners who wanted to buy it na. We are partner with some companies even in Manila but I don’t mind if they want to sell it to others kasi may mga respected junk shops naman dito sa Puerto and we want them to engage with them,” ayon kay Gastanes.
Sa ngayon ay mayroon nang 60 Eco-Warriors ang Eco-Kolek Project at nais pa ni Gastanes na maparami pa ito at lumawak ang matutulungan ng proyekto sa buong lungsod ng Puerto Princesa.
